Ultrapure water is a term used to describe water that has been treated to the highest levels of purity for all types of contaminants, basically impurity-free.

The electrical resistivity of water is used in the assessment of ultrapure water quality. The less impurities in water, the higher resistivity the water is. The water resistivity is reported as Mega-Ohms per centimeter (MΩ-cm) at 25 degree Celsius.

For example, seawater typically has a resistivity reading of 0.2 Ωm (0.00002 MΩ-cm). The resistivity of tap water ranges from 0.0002 to 0.01 MΩ-cm. Reverse osmosis (RO) water has a resistivity reading of around 0.4 MΩ-cm. And the theoretical highest resistivity value for absolutely pure water is 18.2 MΩ-cm.
